‘‘To stop working will make him feel very unlike himself’’
I have been working since I was ten years old. I have had to work very hard to get anything in life and have worked predominantly as an Agri labourer. Unfortunately, the money was never enough, and it was a constant struggle to make ends meet.
Financially, things got a bit more difficult when I got married and had a family to look after. What didn’t help was that I met with a work-related injury that made me unfit to carry out work that required high levels of physical activity. This situation, coupled with my innate desire to start my own business, which of course, came from the fact that I didn’t want to work for anyone, allowed me to pursue the entrepreneurial journey.
I started a provision shop with a loan which I had taken from a local moneylender. The loan was on a metre-vaadi, which meant that I had to pay very high-interest rates. I was getting into a debt trap because of the interest I was paying and was somehow managing to run the shop. It was during this time that I came to know about Dvara KGFS and had approached them for a loan. The loan enabled me to turn around the financial situation I found myself in and set me on a path to grow my business. I worked very hard to develop the shop, and within years, I became financially stable and ended up buying my own house as well.
To expand my income base further, when I realized that people in my village were preferring to build houses with ready-made cement-hollow blocks, but were sourcing it from afar, I decided to try my hand at manufacturing the same right here in this village. I set up a cement-hollow blocks manufacturing business right next to my home and orders for blocks started pouring in. I very recently sought a loan from Dvara KGFS again to expand my business’s manufacturing capacity to meet the increasing order numbers. I’m hopeful that I’ll soon make it a successful business venture.
My father is 75 years old, and he is still very active and works in the field. While I tell him to stop and take some rest, he replies by saying that that he works hard not because he has to, but because he chooses to. To stop working will make him feel very unlike himself.
